Top 5 Most Expensive Weddings

By posted March 29, 2010, 9:37 am | Comments: 1

With the average wedding coming in at under $40,000 these extravagant celebrations are far from the norm. With the cheapest of the bunch starting at around $7 million, these are the most expensive and decadent weddings to date.

5.) Delphine Arnault & Alessandro Vallarino Gancia – $7 million

In 2005, Alessandro Vallarino Gancia, of the Gancia wine dynasty married Delphine Arnault, the daughter of French businessman Bernard Arnault at the Cote d’Azur in France. Rounding out the hefty price tag was a wedding dress by fashion designer John Galliano. Over 5000 white roses were used to decorate. Some famous attendees were Elizabeth Hurley and Karl Lagerfeld. The wedding was named “Wedding of the Year” by Harper’s Bazaar.

4.) Wayne Rooney & Coleen McLoughlin – $15 million

In 2008, Manchester United/England football star Wayne Rooney wed television presenter Colleen McLoughlin in Portofino. The wedding was actually a 4 day long affair for 64 guests which included private jet and yacht charters. Strangely enough the ceremony was a simple civil ceremony and they served pizza at the reception. Maybe that’s because they spent so much on the Georgia Chapman’s Marchesa label dress, which cost nearly $4.5 million. The did however receive $7.5 million from Britain’s OK! Magazine for the exclusive photo and story rights.

3.) Vikram Chatwal & Priya Sachdev – $20 million

In 2006, Vikram Chatwal, the son of a New York hotelier, married model/actress Priya Sachdev in India. The celebration was actually held over 10 days and three cities, Mumbai, Udaipur, and Delhi. There were nearly 600 guests from 26 countries all privately flown in, including Bill Clinton, Naomi Campbell, and P. Diddy.

2.) Aleksandra Kokotovic & Andrei Melnichenko – $30 million

In 2005, Russian billionaire/banker Andrei Melnichenko web Aleksandra Kokotovich, the former Miss Yugoslavia and Serbian model at Cote D’Azur in France. One of the more pricey pieces to their wedding was having Christina Aguilera and Whitney Houston perform. At $3.6 million a each, the average song cost over $1 million as they only did 6 songs.

1.) Vanisha Mittal & Amit Bhatia – $78 million

In 2006, investment banker Amit Bhatia married Vanisha Mittal, daughter of billionaire Lakshmi Mittal at Vaux le Vicomte in France setting the record for the world’s most expensive wedding. They held the wedding in a 17th-century chateau over the course of 5 days. The wedding invitations were a 20 page silver book. There were over 100 different dishes served throughout the entire celebration and the wine bill was just over $1.5 million for the 100 guest party.
