The First Look

By posted May 4, 2010, 12:23 pm | Comments: 0

Imagine this:

Your hair and makeup are done. You put on your dress and look at yourself in the mirror. You look gorgeous, you’re the most excited you’ve ever been before, and all you want to do is see your future husband’s face when he sees you as his bride.

Now imagine the first time he sees you is in a quiet little corner that you have all to yourselves. You walk up behind him and gently tap his shoulder. He turns around and sees you. His expression is priceless. This is the moment you’ve been waiting for and you get to hug and kiss and enjoy every second of it. And of course, your photographer captures all of it.  Though ‘first looks’ are a bit unorthodox, they create such amazing, one-of-a-kind moments for couples on their wedding day:

-       First and foremost… that moment you see each other for the fist time! To be able to see each other and immediately be able to hug and kiss one another must be the most amazing feeling (I wish I’d thought of it for my wedding day).

-       The photo opportunities! Just imagine how many fantastic, creative portraits your photographer will be able to capture without the time constraints of the typical after ceremony photo schedule. And, if everything is timed right, you can even get group photos done before the ceremony.

-       Pre –ceremony jitters be gone!  You will be so much more calm and collected for the ceremony having just spent the previous hour or so with your fiancé.

-       Enjoy your own cocktail hour! What a concept, huh? Instead of missing out on all the fun you and your fiancé can be a part of the party… or you can opt to stay behind the scenes and enjoy the fact that YOU’RE FINALLY MARRIED!

Of course, there are still those that prefer the more traditional approach and want that first look to take place at the ceremony… and that’s the beauty of your wedding day. Do what works best for you and your fiancé. Don’t be afraid to walk to your own beat and create your own moments and traditions. This is YOUR day!

And because photos are my favorite, here are a few ‘First Look’ images from my last wedding:
